Why does a relaxed ready flag not safely publish another thread’s data?
Relaxed atomic access orders that atomic object but does not establish the required publication relationship for separate ordinary data.
Why does from_chars accept a numeric prefix in 42ms?
The result includes both an error code and the first unparsed position. A successful prefix conversion does not mean the complete input matched your numeric grammar.
Why does stoi return 12 for the string 12x?
The conversion can consume an initial numeric portion. If the caller ignores the reported position, trailing text is silently accepted by its own validation logic.
Can a vector<unique_ptr<T>> getter return span<T*> without copying?
No contiguous array of T* exists inside that vector: its contiguous elements are unique_ptr objects, not raw pointer objects. A reinterpret cast cannot manufacture the layout required by span.
Why is a span deduced from a temporary std::array a lifetime trap?
Deduction and construction rules determine a type, not a safe lifetime for retained views. A span that refers to a temporary array can outlive the backing array at the end of the full expression.
Should a one-element C++ range own its value or borrow it?
A one-element span borrows an existing object, whereas single_view stores a value. These can look interchangeable in a pipeline while carrying different lifetime and mutation semantics.
How should I investigate a GCC dangling-reference warning around span and drop?
A lifetime diagnostic can be conservative, but dismissing it before tracing the actual owner can hide a real dangling view. Historical GCC reports do not prove the same warning is false in your version.
