DOI metadata lookup
Look up one Crossref DOI and export attributed metadata as JSON, BibTeX or plain text.
Only the DOI is sent directly to api.crossref.org when you run a lookup. Crossref also receives your IP address and browser connection details. No files or account credentials are sent. Results stay in this tab’s memory until cleared or the page is closed. Requests can reuse results for 10 minutes. No account or payment is needed.
How it works
- Enter a DOI identifier or doi.org link.
- Review the DOI sharing notice and start the lookup.
- Check the deposited metadata and download the format you need.
Example & practical use
10.1038/nphys1170 → the title, authors and publication details deposited with Crossref.
Limits and help
Crossref records only; deposited fields can be missing or incorrect. BibTeX is a starting record and plain text is not a certified citation style. No full text or abstract is exported. The lookup sends the DOI and connection details to Crossref.
Your files are yours.
Running a lookup sends the DOI to Crossref or connects to GOV.UK for public holiday data. The provider receives your IP address and connection details. No files or account credentials are sent; region and year filtering runs on your device. Results remain in tab memory until cleared or the page closes.
Troubleshooting
Try the small example on this page first. If it works, check your input format and size limit. Save any needed input before reloading. You do not need to share a file or password to report an issue.
