Automatic selection works best with a single person or object clearly separated from its background. Hair, fur, glass, shadows and complex scenes may lose detail. The checkerboard only shows transparency; it is not added to the PNG.
How it works
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP photo with a clearly visible subject. Files must be at most 20 MB and 40 million pixels.
- Select Remove background. The browser downloads the processing files on first use, then processes the photo locally. You can cancel while it runs.
- Compare the original and result. Switch between checkerboard, white and dark preview backgrounds to inspect the edges.
- Download the transparent PNG. Its longest edge is at most 2048 pixels; your original remains unchanged.
Example & practical use
Photograph a shoe on a plain table, remove the background, then inspect the sole and laces on a dark preview. Download the PNG to place the shoe over your own design. The preview background is not included in the file.
Limits and help
Automatic U²-NetP segmentation works best with one distinct foreground subject. Fine hair, fur, glass, shadows, small objects or a busy background may produce incomplete edges. Output is limited to 2048 pixels on the longest edge and preserves the aspect ratio. Animated images become a still image. The first use needs internet to download the model and runtime; device speed varies. This tool does not include a manual selection brush or professional photo retouching.

Troubleshooting
If edges are missing, crop around the subject and try again. Fine or translucent details such as hair and glass may not separate completely. Check your connection if the model cannot download. Leaving the page cancels processing. Convert HEIC photos with HEIC → JPG first.
