With the ratio preserved, width and height are maximum bounds: a 4000 × 3000 image fits inside 1200 × 1200 at 1200 × 900. No padding or cropping is added. Prevent upscaling is on: a small source can remain below these bounds. Compare fit, stretch and crop examples

How it works

  1. Check the required width and height in pixels. Upload the original image.
  2. Keep the aspect ratio enabled for an undistorted result. Enter a width or height; use cropping first when the required shape differs.
  3. Create the output and inspect the reported dimensions. If a small source must be enlarged, turn off “Do not enlarge”; this does not add real detail.

Example & practical use

A 1200 × 800 image resized to width 600 with its ratio preserved becomes 600 × 400. For a 400 × 400 square without stretched faces, crop the source to a square first, then resize to 400 × 400. Unlocking the ratio to force a rectangle into a square changes its proportions.

Sizes are measured from these downloadable files. Your browser encoder and chosen settings may produce a different byte count. Other files will not necessarily achieve the same reduction.

Limits and help

Dimensions and file size are different. Upscaling can look blurry. An unlocked ratio can stretch faces and text.

Troubleshooting

If the result stays smaller than requested, check the no-upscale setting and original dimensions. If a form rejects the file size, use the compressor after resizing.
